Differences Between 2019 RAM 1500 & 2019 RAM 2500
Serving Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and Springfield, OH
Since its debut in 1981, the RAM brand has been one of the highest-regarded nameplates in the full-size truck sector. For instance, RAM trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine’s “Truck of the Year” designation five times. As the brand enters its fifth generation with the 2019 model year, its trucks continue to impress with solid performances and quality interiors. The most popular and affordable variants are the half-ton RAM 1500 and the three-quarter-ton RAM 2500. Here are three specific attributes that these trucks share.
Performance
With either truck, you will not have to worry about the level of efficiency from its workhorse, or how much power it can supply. The standard engine on the 2019 RAM 1500 is the 3.6-liter Pentastar flex fuel-capable gasoline-powered V6, which produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Optional is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Both are available with an eTorque system, which is similar to the mild hybrid system that is on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL for improving fuel economy. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is standard on the 2019 RAM 2500, with the option of swapping it for a “compressed natural gas” version, or the 6.4-liter heavy-duty HEMI V8 (with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque) and a more fuel-efficient 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline 6-cylinder engine.
Interior
The 2019 edition of the RAM 1500 and RAM 2500 are especially commended for the quality of their cabins. Premium materials characterize the cab interiors, with the upper-level trims rivalling some luxury-branded vehicles. The cabins are well-insulated from outside noise, and there’s plenty of passenger space regardless of cab size. It also helps that the infotainment system on both trucks are intuitive. Both use Uconnect® integration—complete with a touchscreen with easy-to-use controls and redundant buttons.
Towing and Hauling Capability
The 2019 RAM 1500 and the 2019 RAM 2500 provide a higher level of towing and hauling than most of their rivals in their respective subsectors. On the former, get a rear-wheel Tradesman Quad Cab truck with a 6-foot 4-inch box for the maximum towing capacity of 12,750 lbs. The latter can tow up to 17,980 lbs.—provided that you get a rear-wheel Tradesman Regular Cab with an 8-foot box.
