Differences Between 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee & 2019 Jeep Cherokee
Serving Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and Springfield, OH
For several decades, the Jeep brand has been dedicated to producing vehicles that can survive the roughest of trails. Two of its most popular ones is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which has been around since 1993; and the Jeep Cherokee, which made its debut in 1974. While the Grand Cherokee is the larger, mid-sized version of the Cherokee, the latter is often credited as one of the very first compact SUVs. For the 2019 model year, both vehicles continue their respective production cycles: fourth (WK2) for the Grand Cherokee and fifth (KL) for the Cherokee. As Jeep SUVs, they share the following attributes.
Performance
Unlike most SUVs, the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee go with a four-wheel drivetrain, rather than an all-wheel drivetrain. Both systems involve engine power sent to the wheels to prevent loss of traction. However, all-wheel drive is fine for maximizing tire grip on the road to combat slippage on surfaces compromised by rain, snow, or ice, while four-wheel drive can also handle less-than-smooth terrain as well. This is due to the two-speed transfer case that accompanies it. This mechanism is not only set to a default high setting for the slippery conditions that all-wheel drivetrains can mitigate, but also provides a low setting to provide maximum traction when needed. Notably, the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee have a trim called Trailhawk, on which four-wheel drive is standard and has its undercarriage raised farther from the ground to boost avoidance of potential damage. Standard on all trims is the Selec-Terrain traction management system for manual adjustment of the drivetrain for optimal performance on any type of less-favorable terrain—be it sand, snow, mud, or rocks.
Interior
As off-road vehicles, the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee have to be as comfortable as possible to offset the rumble and tumble of wilderness driving. On either vehicle, you can upgrade with features such as leather seat covers, front-seat power adjustability and heating ability, a memory system for the driver’s seat, heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats, steering-wheel heating ability, and auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror to dim headlight glare of the vehicle behind you.
Infotainment
Both the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee use Uconnect technology for integrating multimedia features that include Bluetooth for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, a USB port and an audio jack for connecting portable media devices, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. Uconnect is often praised for providing intuitive menus, sharp and clear graphics, and supplying the ability to set up shortcuts from the menu bar.
