Differences Between 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee & 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Serving Serving Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and Springfield, OH
Apart from blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert now being standard, there’s no change between the 2018 and 2019 model years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which remains one of the better midsize SUVs in the market. Now in its fourth generation of production, the Grand Cherokee is well-established as a vehicle as suitable for daily commuting as it is for wilderness excursions. Whether you go with the 2018 model or the slightly updated 2019 edition, here’s what you can expect:
Performance
More so than any other attribute, the 2018/2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is renowned for its ability to conquer less-than-smooth terrain with great ease. Credit is due to the combination of a beefy Quadra-Trac® four-wheel drivetrain and the Selec-Terrain® traction management system. Under normal driving conditions, power is sent to all four wheels equally. However, if Quadra-Trac® detects any tire slippage, it can send as much as 100 percent of available torque to the axle with the most traction to restore stability. And with Selec-Terrain®, which has four modes—Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud—you can adjust powertrain and drivetrain components to best handle the surface you are currently driving on. To have a lifted suspension, which keeps the undercarriage farther away from the driving surface to avoid potential damage, go with the aptly named Trailhawk® trim.
Interior
For an off-road vehicle, the 2018/2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is furnished with elements to make each ride as comfortable as possible. The entire cabin—which measures 105.4 cubic feet, in addition to a generous 36.3 cubic feet of standard cargo volume—is roomy. There’s ample headroom and legroom in both rows of seats. And the Uconnect infotainment system is easy to use, thanks to redundant knobs and buttons and a quick response to inputs.
Engine
The 2018/2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has an enviable range of engines to choose from. The standard engine is the 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, which produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. If you go with the Limited, Trailhawk®, Sterling Edition, Overland, High Altitude, or Summit trim, you can opt for a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 instead. This engine produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. If you go with the SRT® trim, you will get the exclusive 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine, which generates 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Also unique is the Trackhawk, which has the Grand Cherokee’s most powerful engine yet: the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® V8, which produces 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque.
