Differences Between 2019 Jeep Cherokee & 2018 Jeep Compass
Serving Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and Springfield, OH
Jeep has always been synonymous with large, rugged, all-weather vehicles that can tackle virtually any type of terrain. But what if you need something that’s a little smaller and can also serve as a comfortable daily cruiser? That’s what the Cherokee and the Compass are for. Both are crossovers, which means that they blend the chief attributes of an SUV and a small car. As of now, the latest Cherokee is the 2019 model, which is part of the nameplate’s KL production cycle, and the latest Compass is the 2018 model, which continues the vehicle’s second production cycle. As Jeeps, these crossovers share the following characteristics:
Performance
More so than most other crossover vehicles, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the 2018 Jeep Compass are prepared to handle less-than-smooth driving surfaces. Instead of the all-wheel drivetrain found on most crossovers—it is ideal for maximizing tire grip to slippery surfaces—these Jeeps go with a four-wheel drivetrain, which can handle a wider range of troublesome terrain, such as rocks, sand, snow, and mud. To optimize your Jeep’s off-road capabilities, go with the Trailhawk®, which is an available trim on either the Cherokee or the Compass. Named after its expected high level of performance on trail adventures, the Trailhawk® has its suspension tuned to keep the vehicle’s undercarriage farther away from potentially damaging debris on the driving surface, such as rocks or twigs. In addition, the Trailhawk® is the only Cherokee or Compass trim with a standard four-wheel-drive system; with the others, you would have to choose between this system and front-wheel drive. If you go with the four-wheel drive, Jeep’s manufacturer, Chrysler, adds the Selec-Terrain® traction management system to make powertrain adjustment most appropriate for the encountered road or weather condition.
Interior
Both the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the 2018 Jeep Compass use Uconnect® technology for infotainment integration of features such as six-speaker audio, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, and a USB port and an audio jack for media access from your mobile devices. With a 5-inch touchscreen on the Compass and an upgrade to a 7-inch on the Cherokee (from the 5-inch of the previous year), Uconnect® has uncomplicated menus and redundant buttons to make its use a user-friendly experience.
Safety
Both the 2019 Cherokee and the 2018 Compass have creative uses of their respective cargo spaces. On the former, there is a storage compartment underneath the cargo floor that allows you to discreetly hold additional items. On the latter, in addition to the aforementioned storage under the cargo floor, the front passenger and rear seats fold completely flat to enable transportation of long items, and there are various cubbies throughout the cabin for easy small-item storage.
