Classified as heavy-duty pickup trucks, the 2018 RAM 2500 and 3500 are engineered to work hard on various terrains. In addition to having impressive capabilities, the RAM 2500 and 3500 boast sophisticated technology in the Uconnect 4C multimedia system.
Performance
The 2018 RAM 1500's 6.7 L engine block is identified by the distinct Cummins badge. Featuring six inline cylinders, this turbocharged engine is engineered to run on diesel. The ratings for this legendary powertrain are 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with this powerful turbo engine, the 1500 model tows approximately 18,000 pounds. The 2018 RAM 3500 has a modified edition of this I-6 engine that delivers up to 385 hp and 930 lb-ft. This heavy-duty pickup truck has a class-leading towing capacity of just more than 31,000. If you prefer a classic gas-powered engine with natural aspiration, select the 6.4 L HEMI unit that kicks out 410 hp. Delivering just under 430 lb-ft, this V8 engine is available in both RAM models. Additionally, the 1500's 5.7 L HEMI engine whips out just more than 380 hp and up to 400 lb-ft.
Interior
The 2018 RAM 2500 and 3500 are appointed with leather upholstery and other premium materials, such as wood grain and vinyl. Heating is available for the front and rear seats in both models. These reliable pickup trucks also have dual-zone climate control and tinted glass. The Uconnect 4C platform delivers advanced connectivity options in the cabins of these RAM vehicles. You can tune into the all-new SiriusXM Guardian service that enhances the built-in GPS navigation software. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE WiFi are integrated into the signature Uconnect 4C system. Playing music on SiriusXM and HD Radio, nine speakers by Alpine are optional in these trucks.
Handling
RAM has developed a modified six-speed manual transmission for the Cummins powertrain. A resilient clutch system is integrated into this conventional transmission that optimizes the performance of the diesel engine. Running on the Aisin platform, the six-speed automatic transmission system works in tandem with the HEMI unit in the 3500 model. Both heavy-duty pickup trucks offer a self-leveling rear suspension system that optimizes balance on the road. When cruising on the highway, you could select the Normal Mode for this adaptive air suspension. The Alternate Height Option automatically selects the appropriate ground clearance based on the real-time terrain. Both RAM vehicles are fitted with three-link front suspension systems that have durable coils and shocks for off-road conditions. If you need the powertrain to work extra hard, simply turn on the Tow/Haul Mode in the central console. An auxiliary panel also allows you to control equipment that's compatible with the Snow Chief Package.
