Differences Between 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara & 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Serving Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, and Springfield, OH
The Jeep Wrangler is a long-running model that has proven its worth to countless owners. This rugged SUV is great for off-road travel, and it's also pretty nicely equipped on the inside. Available in either two-door or four-door design, it can also be customized further via the purchase of one or more enhancement packages.
A popular four-door trim, the Sahara is a favorite among those who want to combine a more luxurious interior with powerful performance. The Rubicon is available in both two- and four-door designs. Both trims boast plenty of power, excellent suspension, and lots of standard convenience features. Read on to learn more about the similarities and differences between these two popular trims.
Build Design
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara is a mid-level trim that builds upon the base Sport trim. In addition to the standard features that come on the Sport, the Sahara has 18-inch alloy wheels, painted exterior body panels, painted exterior trim, and automatic LED headlights. Also standard are LED foglights. The Sahara can be purchased as either a hardtop or a soft-top convertible. This build design is perfect for hauling a group to the beach or into the outback. The doors open wide and make for easy entry into the rear seating area. The 2018 Wrangler Rubicon is available in both two- and four-door configurations. It's built on the same chassis but offers a slightly different interior arrangement depending on which version is chosen. It also comes with a different front axle than the other Wrangler trims.
Interior Features
The mid-level Sahara trim is nicely appointed on the inside. The cloth upholstery is of the finest quality, and the front console and displays are easily navigated. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, the driver information display is larger than what is found inside the lower trim models, and the Uconnect infotainment system is an upgrade from the system on the Sport trim. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features on the Sahara. Satellite radio is also included. The Rubicon has the same basic interior design as the Sahara, but it's eligible for a greater number of stand-alone options. These include heated front seats, leather upholstery, navigation, and a premium Alpine audio system. Both the Sahara and Rubicon can be purchased with remote start and a bundled set of safety features including blind-spot monitoring.
Performance And Off-Road Capability
The standard engine on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a 3.6L V6 rated at 285 horsepower. Six-speed manual transmission is standard, but buyers can choose an eight-speed automatic instead. A turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 270-horsepower output is optional. This engine is part of the mild hybrid eTorque system, and it's available across the trim lineup. The Rubicon is better suited for off-road travel because it's equipped with special off-road tires, shorter axle gearing, electronic front and rear locking differentials, and an electronically disconnecting front roll bar.
