Differences Between 2018 Jeep Wrangler & 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK

Serving Springfield, OH, Fort Thomas, KY, and Lawrenceburg, IN

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler has been completely redesigned, but the old model is still offered. For 2018, the carryover from the previous year is now known as the Wrangler JK. It doesn't have nearly as many creature comforts as the new and improved 2018 Wrangler, but it's priced to sell, and it's still more capable as an off-road SUV than any other model on the market. Below, a more detailed comparison of the two models is explained.

Rugged Design

For many years to remember, there hasn't been a truly serious competitor to the Jeep Wrangler when it comes to rugged design and build. The true SUV chassis and frame design is strong and lasts long. The 2018 Wrangler and Wrangler JK fit nicely into the tiny segment between compact and mid-size SUV, and there's plenty of room for five, especially in the four-door versions. The suspension is soft, and the tires are big. The frame itself is built for optimum balance, so there's no fear of tipping. The frame is lightweight but very strong.

Off-Road Performance

The big tires and boxy frame results in perfect control when heading out on the uneven road surfaces. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is powered by a 3.6L engine that puts out a total of 285 horsepower. A new turbocharged engine will be available before the end of the year. Six-speed manual transmission is standard, but buyers can choose an eight-speed if they desire. The base trim comes with 17-inch steel wheels, but the Sahara trim offers larger 18-inch wheels. For true off-road capability, the Rubicon trim is the one to consider. This version comes with special off-road tires, a heavy-duty front axle, and shorter axle gearing. The 2018 Wrangler JK can also be purchased as a Rubicon, and it boasts the same axle upgrades as the new 2018 model Rubicon. The JK model is eligible for even further axle upgrades as well as a limited-slip rear differential. To put it simply, both the 2018 Wrangler and Wrangler JK offer more for the price than any competitor when it comes to off-road capability. These aren't the most comfortable rides, but a bit of bounciness never hurt anyone, and the Wrangler models will get the driver and passengers just about anywhere they wish to go.

The 2018 Wrangler JK is offered in several package editions including the Willys Wheeler, Golden Eagle, and Altitude. These packages add on unique badging, privacy glass, mud terrain tires, rock rails, and . . . the list goes on and on.
